Exporting K-1 Data to a Spreadsheet

You can export K-1 data to a spreadsheet from the return types and entities shown in the following table. Please note that the data that is exported varies for the different return types.

Note: You must have Microsoft® Excel® installed to perform a spreadsheet import or export.

To export K-1 data to a spreadsheet, do the following:

  1. Open the Partnership, S Corporation, or Fiduciary return for which you want to export K-1 data.
  2. Select K-1 Data > K-1 to Spreadsheet in the Export group on the Import / Export tab.
  3. If needed, click Browse to navigate to and select a different location where the export file should be saved.

    Note: The system places the export file in your Documents folder if you do not select a different location. If you select a different location for the export, the system reverts back to the default location for future exports.

  4. Select the data types to export. The default selections and options vary based on the type of return from which you are exporting data.
    • K-1 data. Exports Schedule K-1 data without rounding for Partnership and S Corporation.
    • Ratio. Exports Schedule K-1 data without rounding for Partnership and S Corporation.
    • Amount allocations. Exports Schedule K-1 data without rounding for Partnership and S Corporation.
    • Schedule K overrides. Exports Schedule K Totals Overrides without rounding consisting for Partnership S Corporation.
    • K-1 footnotes. Exports Schedule K-1 footnotes for Partnership, S Corporation, and Fiduciary.
  5. Click Export.

    Tip: By default, the system opens the export file automatically in Microsoft® Excel® after the export completes. If you prefer that the file not open, clear the Launch Excel when export is complete box at any time while the export is still in progress. This selection changes the default so that the export file is not opened automatically for future exports.

  6. Review the log summary when the export is completed. The log summary indicates whether the export was successful or not.
  7. If needed, when the export is completed, you can do one of the following with the log summary:
    • Click Copy to copy the log summary to the Clipboard.
    • Click Print to print the summary.
    • Click Details to view more information about the export.
  8. Click Finish.
